Pet Care Cats Teeth
“Caring A Cat's Teeth”
Good oral hygiene must be developed in pet care cat's teeth. This includes mechanical brushing, mouth ringing and stimulation of the
gums. Cats are prone to oral problems because of inability to maintain oral hygiene.
Since they can't pick up a toothbrush to their teeth, it is our responsibility as their caregiver to provide their oral care needs. Just
like in humans, to make our teeth and gums healthy, regular brushing for the teeth is required and so the pets too.
Brushing of teeth is very important to prevent tooth decay that causes bad breath and bleeding gums. Brushing is effective in removing food
particles around and in between teeth. It also removes dental plaque. Plaque adheres to the enamel surface of the teeth.
Unchecked plaque may develop and form into a tartar that forms around the gum lines.
When tartar builds up, it can cause swollen and reddening of gingivus or what we call gingivitis that will result in gum disease. There
are two problems that most frequently affecting our cat's teeth, these are dental caries and periodontal disease. In having these
manifestations of bad breath or halitosis, ulcers may develop.
Gums appear spongy and bleeding while the teeth will have darkened areas that may include pain. Loss of teeth will occur because of the
gum disease. If this disease can't be treated immediately, another disease may develop such as glossitis which is the inflammation of
tongue and stomatitis, an inflammation of the oral mucosa.
Cats acquiring the disease may experience pain, discomforts and loss of appetite. They may also develop a heart disease that will lead
them to death. Let's not put our cat's life at risk by having them acquire these diseases. Here are some suggestions that you must
take into account in ensuring good health and wellness in caring your cats.
* Establish oral care routine
* thorough brushing after meals
* use mouth rinse between bushings
* use toothpaste that is labeled for pets use only
* use foam swabs to clean oral cavity
* provide dental chews
* have a regular dental check up and cleanings with your vet.
* Include coarse and fibrous food in your cat's diet. (as an alternative of dental chews if not available)
in order for our cats to adjust in this habit, we will introduce first finger brushing to get them used before moving up to regular
brushing. It is necessary for us to include brushing habit in our plan of care because it promotes wellness, ensures good health and serves
as a preventive measure in infectious diseases.
It also stimulates good circulation in the gums to maintain health and firmness. Regular dental visit and seeking advices with vet will
help us a lot in taking care of our cat's teeth. Vet plays a big role in raising pets if your pet has having dental problems, do not hesitate to
visit or ask for help. For vet only knows what is best for pet care cat's teeth.
