How a dog protects the family

If you are looking for some added protection for your family, you may want to get a dog to help you feel more secure.

There are many different breeds of dogs that you can purchase to be a great security blanket as well as a friend and companion for you and your family.  You will be bringing more protection to your home and family when you decide on the right dog. 

You can choose from many types of dogs to be security dogs, and a golden retriever is one type!  You will want to have a dog that will be obedient and alert you when someone is near your home.  They will be able to sense when something is not right and they will let you know by barking loudly or acting different from what they normally do.  This will tell you that something is not right.

Some dogs used for security are small but most of them are larger sized dogs.  It is not that a small dog will not protect you it is about the feeling of being secure and most people get that from having a larger size dog in their home.  They will feel more at ease when they have a breed like a German Shepard, Golden retriever, or Labrador retriever watching over their home.

You do not want to get a mean dog that you will not be able to trust in your home with you and your children.  You want to make sure that you are comfortable with the dog in the same way that they are comfortable with you.  You do not want to get a dog that is not approachable by you or guests that you invite to your home.  You only want the dog to scare away the intruders and strangers not your family and friends. 

You can teach your dog some commands that will help you know when there is something wrong.  You can teach them to bark when there is a noise at the door.  Some times just the sound of the dog's bark will be enough to scare away predators.  You can also teach your dog to bark when someone is entering your yard.  This is a great idea especially if you have children that like to play outdoors in the backyard.  The dog will let you know when there is something wrong.

Once a dog has become attached to a home and knows their surroundings, they will become familiar with their home and become loyal to their family.  This is what makes a great pet an added security measure for the home.  They will want to protect their new family and will not let anything in to harm them.  This is what a true sense of security is when you have a great friend and security in a dog.
