How To Care For A Pikenese Dog
What You Need To Make Your Pekingnese Life Worthwhile & A Lot Longer
The Pekingnese or Pekinese dog is probably one of the friendliest, independent and low activity lap dog or toy dog that you can ever have and
it's now wonder a lot of people would choose this lovely dog. With its bulging cutie-pie eyes and lovely long hair, you could say that you're
very lucky to have this kind of dog breed. As with every other dog, the Pekingnese can give you more love and care and respect and loyalty than
you expect and that's why, you have to do something in return to let her feel that she is also loved. Would you like to know how to care for a
pikenese dog? Here are some tips based on personal experiences from a Pekinese owner for 10 years.
A neighbor, named Melinda, has just lost her old but lovely Pekingnese, by the name of Girlie, just last month. She had Girlie in her arms and
care all of the time for 10 years since its birth. Melinda has never read anything about hwo to care for Girlie but by golly, she cared for her
real good for the past 10 years and it's really a big loss for Melinda to see Girlie go away to Heaven but she knew that Girlie was very happy
and very lucky to have Melinda as her master, her mother and her friend.
Girlie had a long, coarse and straight coat with a soft, thick undercoat. Melinda loved to brush those strands regularly with special
"tender loving care" accompanied by constantly talking to her baby. Melinda never forgot even just for once to check and clean Girlie's
ears daily. Another reason why Melinda does this every morning and afternoon it's because of the helpful therapy that Girlie has given to
her. Melinda is stricken with gout and according to her, stroking Girlie and brushing her hair regularly made her felt some relief from painful
gout symptoms.
Then, it's always a very "holy" ceremony for both Melinda and Girlie to do some brushing the teeth at least twice a week with toothpaste and
toothbrush designed for dogs like the tender Pekinese. Some owner might think that this is way over-the-top action but to a true-blue
100%-certified Pekingnese owner, this is not so. Brushing removes the accumulation of plaque and tartar which can cause cavities and
periodontal disease. Melinda is aware that dogs use their teeth mostly unlike humans. And if you don't care for their teeth, it would be a
very devastating situation for the dog and Melinda is very much aware of this.
According to Melinda's vet or Girlie's, for that matter, dog periodontal disease can lead to pain, loss of teeth, bad breath and other serious
disease even the development of heartworm, tapeworms and other kinds of parasites.
Melinda always remember that to keep Girlie healthy, she has to be clean both inside and outside and never in Girlie's life that she has gone
out of the house to do some scavenging.
Girlie's toenails also need special attention. They were always clipped and examined for growth by Melinda. Melinda observed that the
toenails on the hind feet grow slower compared to the front feet. For this, Melinda, according to the vet's recommendation, is using a
guillotine type trimmer so it would be more convenient and less tedious.
These are just some of the things that Melinda has done for Girlie and these are the very reasons why Girlie has reached 10 years old. Melinda
has developed an expertise on how to care for a Pekinese dog but if you take a look at it, this is not the main reason why Girlie stayed very
long under Melinda's care. Girlie has reached this far because of the unconditional love and care that Melinda has shown to her.
