How The Experts Prepare A Safe Place For Their Cat To Sleep

You can make a comfortable sleeping place for your cat by placing a ring pillow, a round, stuffed pillow,

with sides about 4 inches or 10 cm high, on a piece of furniture, preferably against a wall. She wants the security of being above floor level and with a solid wall at her back.

If she has a short or fine coat and needs extra warmth, place a lamp with a low wattage bulb near the pillow. Make sure it is securely fastened so it cannot tip over, and hide the cord so the cat won’t chew on it.

If you are not adverse to having her in the kitchen, a pillow on top of the refrigerator or the washer or dryer makes a good comfort station. Again, she is up high, and the heat from these appliances will keep her warm.

She may decide that an upholstered chair or your bed is her cup of tea, so provide her with a pillow or small blanket for those areas. Or she may prefer to sleep under your bed covers. She will let you know where she wants to sleep and you can outfit her favorite spot with a comfortable towel or pillow.

Another location that makes her feel safe is the floor of the closet with the door left slightly ajar. She will not feel threatened there as it is dark and quiet. A pillow or other bedding on the floor of the closet may suit her very well. Or you might consider giving her a shelf in a closet.

Again, you should place a comfortable bedding on the shelf. Your cat will need her own place of refuge as cats do a lot of sleeping and need a safe place in which they can fully relax and not be on guard against children or other household pets.

Even though your cat may now be a mature adult, you will still need to ensure that the home is as safe as possible, just as you would for a child. Although you can provide your new kitten with a comfortable bed, there is no guarantee that she will use it. In fact, she may prefer to sleep on your bed. Always keep the door to both your washer and dryer closed. Your cat may seek out its warmth, and you could turn it on without her having a chance to escape.
