How The Experts Give Proper Medication To Their Dogs
When a dog has been diagnosed with a problem that requires medication
it is usually in the form of a pill or liquid. Because it is essential for a dog to have the entire pill or capsule in order for the dosage to
be effective, it is necessary to actually give the dog the pill rather than mix it in his food or wrap it in meat, which can be chewed up and
spit out.
Open your dog’s mouth and place the pill on the back of the middle of his tongue. Then hold his head up with his mouth held shut and stroke
his throat. When the dog swallows, you can let go.
Liquid medication is most easily given in a syringe. These are usually marked so the amount is accurately measured. Hold the dog’s head upward
at about 45 degree, open the mouth and place the end of the syringe in the area in the back of the mouth between the cheek and rear molars.
Hold your dog’s mouth shut until he swallows. If your dog needs eye medication, apply it by pulling down the lower eyelid and placing the
ointment on the inside of the lid. Then close the eye and gently disperse the solution around the eye.
Eye drops can be places directly on the eye. Giving ear medicine is similar to cleaning the ears. The drops are placed in the canal and the
ear is then massaged.
What is epilepsy? Genetic epilepsy usually appears prior to 3 years of age. The old age onset form may have a genetic predisposition. These
are seizures that occur regularly and follow a typical pattern.
