The truth about cat’s intelligence
Cats are incredibly intelligent creatures. Their history as wild hunters has taught them how to be self sufficient. They learn quickly (when
they want to) and have good problem solving skills.
Despite popular belief, cats and kittens can be trained to perform tricks and they can teach themselves a few tricks too (such as how to open
cabinets, doors, etc.). They can even learn practical tricks, such as responding to their name, coming when called, and how to walk on a leash.
Some owners enjoy spending time teaching their cats to do more complex stunts, such as rolling over, lying down, sitting on command, and jumping
through hoops.
However, a cat won’t learn anything that he does not want to. Unlike dogs, cats have no need to impress or please their masters but if they
see a reward or an advantage to learn something, they will give it a try.
Cat psychology is a mystery to owners and scientists alike. These marvelous creatures always have a reason for doing what they do even if the
reason is because I feel like it. Cats may ignore things that do not interest them but they have excellent memories. They remember people who are
kind (or unkind) to them, can recall negative situations (such as a trip to the vet’s office), and are generally good judges of character. If
your cat takes a great dislikes to a visiting friend or relative, there is probably a good reason for it.
The color or pattern of a cat’s coat varies depending on the breed and its heritage. Certain breeds (such as Siamese) are known for their
specific colorings or markings. Nonpurebreds (or moggies) have coats in a variety of different patterns (including blotches, stripes and solids),
as well as in an assortment of colors (such as gray, white, cream, silver, brown, orange or black). An albino cat’s coat completely lacks color
pigments, and they eyes are pink. Albinos differ from all white cats, who have pigmented eyes that may be green, blue, gold or yellow.
As pets go, cats and kitten are ideal companions. They adapt quickly to almost any lifestyle and are content to live wherever you do, whether
it is in a tiny condo or in a large country home. They often are accepted into apartment complexes and other living situations that do not allow
dogs. They are naturally quiet animals (with the exception of the vocal Siamese), and they won’t disturb the neighbors by barking as some dogs
do.
Cats are also self reliant. You can leave them home for hours while you are at work, and they won’t mind. In most cases, a cat will sleep all
day while you are gone. When you come home, they will rush to greet you and be ready to play or cuddle. Cats and kittens know how to use the
litter box with little or no training and they are smart enough to learn that certain places in the home are off limits.
Cats are for cat lovers, and most owners could not imagine living without one or more of these intelligent, loving pets.
