Cat Grooming – What Other People Are Not Telling You About Caring For Your Cat And Kitten

All cat owners will need to spend at least some time grooming their cat.

However the length of time you choose to spend will depend on whether she is an indoor or outdoor cat, whether she is longhaired or shorthaired, and whether you plan to show her or just have her as a companion.

A cat is one of the cleanest creatures on earth, and spends a large part of her waking hours washing herself. She can go through life very nicely without ever having a bath, as regular combing and brushing will suffice.

But if you are a cat fancier and plan on showing her, then you must always present her in tip top shape, and groom and wash her regularly. She will also need a bath if she has a foreign or toxic substance on her coat that must be washed off immediately.

Or you may need to remove soot if she has been playing in the fireplace. Or if she is an indoor and outdoor cat, she may have an accumulation of household dust or dirt that needs to be washed off.

Your cat’s saliva could either turn your cat’s dark coat a reddish color, or her white or light colored coat a yellowish color. Sunlight may also affect the color of her coat. So, no matter how many times you wash her, you may never be able to keep her coat completely stain free.

All cats clean themselves regularly. However, if you are intending to show your cat, you will need to wash her thoroughly to properly prepare her coat. For ear cleaning, only clean the visible part of your cat’s ears. Never put the swab into her ear canal as it can cause damage.

For face cleaning, to prevent tear and saliva staining, you may need to clean your cat’s face on a regular basis.
