Cat Exercise – How The Experts
Enjoy Playtime and Do Outdoor Venturing With Their Cats
The best toy is one with you at the other end. Your cat loves to
pounce on your toes or
fingers as they move underneath the bedcovers. Anything that
dangles is appealing to her. Make sure that toys have no loose
strips that the kitten could chew off and swallow.
A bit of sting, a belt or a ribbon trailed across the floor or
in front of her hiding place is sure to elicit a delighted pounce
and scamper after the trailing end. Or make a fishing pole from a
stick, some fishing line, and a bit of cloth on the end of the
line.
A ball of aluminum foil is light and rolls well. A pipe cleaner
bent in a circle and tossed will result in endless fun for her as
she picks it up in her mouth and returns it or drops it just out of
reach, which she thinks is hilarious.
Or take a card board box, seal it, and cut holes on the top and
sides large enough for her to pass through. Toss a toy or two
inside for hours of amusement.
Your indoor cat can always find plenty of exercise in her home,
but if you want to take your indoor cat outside for some sunshine
and to smell the roses, try to make her adapt to walking on a
harness and leash.
Do not consider this proper exercise, though, as she will
generally curl herself into a clump so that you have to move her
along by gently tugging on the leash.
If your cat goes outdoors, she will run rapidly after real or
imagined prey. To an indoor and outdoor cat, a leaf wafting across
the lawn is an attractive as a bird or mouse. As for the working
cat, she will develop and retain her muscles and condition by
keeping the ranch or farm free of rodents and other vermin.
The indoor and outdoor cat, as well as the completely outdoor
cat, gets plenty of exercise as she is compelled to make the rounds
of her territory every day. She will leave her mark either by
spraying, rubbing her cheek against a tree or building, or leaving
scars in tree trunks from her claws. This daily patrol not only
keeps her busy, but keeps her fit, too.
